Man hit by car as police cordon off city centre road

A cyclist was taken to hospital after being hit by a car on Duke Street. Merseyside Police were called to the scene at around 2.20pm on Wednesday (September 18) after reports of a collision involving a pedal bike and a black Peugeot car.

Emergency services attended the scene and the cyclist was taken to hospital. The driver stopped at the scene and assisted police with their enquiries.

The driver who was involved in the crash said she was "afraid she might pass out" following the incident. The woman told the ECHO she was "shaking" after being involved in a crash with a cyclist.

The man was taken to hospital in an ambulance but his injuries are unknown at this stage. Part of Duke Street at Cornwallis Street and Berry Street was closed in both directions while police dealt with this incident. The road has since been reopened.
