Man Holds On by Cable After Falling Down Elevator Shaft in Southern China

Firefighters in China rushed to rescue a man who stepped through elevator doors on the 30th floor of a building into an empty shaft on December 22.

The man, who had been working on renovations in the building in Liupanshui City in southern China, had called an elevator and stepped into the shaft when the doors opened, not noticing there wasn’t a carriage, the fire department said.

The man was able to grab hold of the elevator’s cable, triggering an alarm that alerted the police.

By the time the fire department arrived, the man had already slipped from the 30th floor of the building to the 5th.
