Man Imprisoned After Throwing Shotgun From Car During Police Chase in Northern England

A man in Northern England has been sentenced to six years and six months in prison after he threw a bag containing a loaded shotgun out a car window during a police chase near a shopping center in Manchester on May 9, officials said.

Footage shows the dramatic arrest of the man, named by police as Daniel Murdoch, driving a white car through red lights and along footpaths before he exits the vehicle and is tackled by officers.

Police said Murdoch was pulled over by officers after he drove through a red light. They said he “appeared intoxicated before he accelerated off, reaching speeds of 80 mph in a 30 zone.”

An officer noticed a bag being thrown from Murdoch’s vehicle onto a roundabout. The bag contained a shotgun, they said.

Murdoch was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court to six years and six months on Wednesday, November 3, after admitting to several offenses including possession of a loaded shotgun in a public place and dangerous driving.

A second sawn-off shotgun, marked with the words ‘f*** the police,’ was located at Murdoch’s address in Stockport, police said. Credit: Greater Manchester Police via Storyful
