Man jailed after monkey dust worth £20k discovered by police during raid

A man was jailed after police found an estimated £20,000-worth of monkey dust and cannabis inside a house. Corey Gilchrist has now been jailed after the raid in Stoke-on-Trent.

Staffordshire Police said the 31-year-old was arrested after spotting him near a home officers were about to search on Lansdowne Road in Hartshill. Officers found a large quantity of monkey dust and cannabis that had been sorted into different bags inside the address. Police said £1,180 in cash and scales was also found.

The estimated street value of the cannabis was believed to be worth up to £19,880. The monkey dust was believed to be worth around £400 to £1,860.

Gilchrist was then charged with the offences and taken to court. Gilchrist, of Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent, was jailed for 16-months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday, November 15, after he admitted three counts of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class B at an earlier hearing.

Police said they have got a number of dedicated proactive teams across Staffordshire working hard every day to compile intelligence and carry out enforcement like this against those involved in serious and organised crime in our communities.

Since police launched their crackdown in May last year, officers have arrested more than 1,000 people suspected of drug and weapon offences and have been continuing to act against those involved in high-harm crimes across the count.
