Man Jailed For Orchestrating Ridiculous Marriage Proposal On Busy Motorway

As if popping the question wasn’t high-risk enough, this dangerous marriage proposal took place on a busy motorway – and landed one man in jail.

Mehmet Zehir agreed to bring four lanes of traffic to halt so that his best mate could ask for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage.

The man helped orchestrate the bizarre proposal by weaving his car across the road in Turkey for his love-struck pal, Mesut Kocak.

As the video above shows, after the traffic is completely halted, red flares are set off.

Kocak is then seen leading his girlfriend from the car and getting down on one knee – as angry motorists are heard beeping their horns (what could be more romantic?)

Unsurprisingly, the authorities didn’t take kindly to the outlandish gesture.

In fact, a judge in Istanbul sentenced Zehir to 50 days in prison for dangerous driving.

In court, Zehir said: “My friend said he was going to propose marriage to his girlfriend and told me to take my car.

"We formed a convoy of around five to six cars, and headed towards Bahcelievler [a suburb of Istanbul].

"Mesut stopped the traffic, and proposed marriage to his girlfriend and I did couple of tours with my car by stepping on the pedal really fast – I basically drag raced it.

"I burned the tires so we had to stop the traffic for around five minutes. I regret what I have done.

"I didn’t drift across the traffic lanes, but I made smoke with the tyres by stepping on the pedal.”

Judge Aysel Sevcan initially sentenced him to two months imprisonment for “endangering the traffic”, but due to previous good behaviour she reduced the penalty to one month and 20 days.

It remains unknown whether the vehicular marriage proposal worked or not.

If it was, presumably he’s a shoo-in for best man after this…
