Man jailed after stabbing man in back with machete in street

A man has been jailed for more than six years after attacking another man with two machetes in the street.

Jordan O’Connor, 28, arranged to meet the victim, 27, in Chester Road in Pype Hayes, Birmingham, on 25 January.

O’Connor organised the meeting under the pretence of sorting out their differences, according to West Midlands Police.

But instead, he came armed with two machetes, stabbing the man and wounding him in the back.

The 28-year-old also smashed the window of a car.

He also threatened another man who was with his victim before fleeing the scene at around 7.40pm, police said.

The victim was treated in hospital for his wounds and was discharged two days later following surgery.

Officers called to the scene carried out an initial search and seized the two machetes which O’Connor had dumped in a nearby park.

Police said witnesses were also interviewed, clothing seized and analysed and CCTV footage was reviewed.

O’Connor was arrested the following day and gave “no comment” in police interviews.

He was later charged over the attack.

O’Connor admitted to wounding, criminal damage, possession of two bladed weapons and affray at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday.

He was sentenced to six years and nine months and also made the subject of an extended three-year licence period.
