Man killed in Surrey car crash was Russian oligarch, friend says, as he claims billionaire was targeted

A man killed when he has hit by a car while out walking his dog in Surrey has been named in Russian media as an oligarch and a friend has claimed he was deliberately targeted.

The collision happened on Monday, Nov 25 in Warren Lane, Oxshott. Surrey Police said it involved three vehicles and a pedestrian and that the dog also died at the scene.

While officers have declined to reveal the man's identity, saying they are waiting for clearance from the family liaison officer, a Russian news agency has named him as 49-year-old Dmitry Obretetsky.

Life talked to Mr Obretetsky's friend Pavel Borovkov, who said: "He lived in London for the last eight years. He moved there with his son, he is 22 years old. He was engaged in the sale of real estate. He came to Russia on business.

"You know, people drive cars very carefully in London, I don’t exclude the fact that he was specially shot down."

A Surrey Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that a man has sadly died following a collision in Warren Lane, Oxshott last week.

"The collision took place at around 4.45pm on Monday, Nov 25.

"It involved three vehicles and a pedestrian, who was walking a dog at the time. The dog died at the scene.

"The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries, but sadly died on Saturday, Nov 30. The man’s next of kin have been informed.

"We are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the collision."

The Telegraph has learned that all parties were talked on the day of the collision and no arrests were made.
