A man left his partner needing 12 staples to her head after striking her with a vodka bottle during a holiday in Llandudno. Osasuyi Odeh, 37, of Mildway Road, Ipswich, was on holiday with his partner in Llandudno at the beginning of April this year, a sentencing hearing at Mold Crown Court was told.

Odeh admitted unlawful wounding and causing criminal damage. On April 5, they had gone shopping in Conwy, however there was a disagreement while ordering food at a fish and chip shop, Catherine Elvin, prosecuting, said. It resulted in them sitting apart and when they got back to their Llandudno hotel, the victim decided she wanted to leave.

The situation escalated with the defendant pushing her onto the bed. He later threatened to take his own life, before throwing her laptop onto her knee, damaging the device, and striking her with the vodka bottle after telling her to "stay here".

She lost consciousness, Ms Elvin said, and when she came round she was bleeding. The victim went down to the reception who called the police, despite Odeh trying to drag her back and stop her. She had suffered a wound to her head which needed 12 staples and bruising to her hand.

In a victim impact statement she said the assault had made her paranoid, afraid of seeing him again, she had been prescribed medication to calm her and had struggled at work. The injuries were still painful she said and was waiting for therapy to help her.

The court heard he had two previous convictions for a domestic violence matter and a drink drive conviction, and had previously been given a 12 month jail term, suspended for 24 months. Maria Masselis, defending, said he had entered an early guilty plea and said it was a single blow. Odeh accepted the relationship was now over and was now remorseful.

He had a full work history and had been working as an adult support worker, with a second job in security working on doors. He also had a nine-year-old daughter and five-year-old son whose lives he wanted an active part in, was learning English and was looking at doing vocational training.

Judge Nicola Saffman said: "The root of all this is your drinking, you were clearly intoxicated to a great extent during your time spent in Llandudno." She activated the suspended sentence order and sentenced Odeh to a total of 21 months in prison, with up to half to be served in prison and the remainder on licence.

There was also a restraining order for five years preventing him from contacting the victim and he also has to pay a statutory surcharge.
