Man leaves cash 'behind the till' to help struggling families
A local businessman is helping families who are struggling financially by leaving money behind the till in shops across the city. As the cold months are fast approaching Michael Woodhouse is making it his mission to help people who can’t afford to pay for gas and electric.
Michael, who owns plastering and painting company, MPW, left £100 behind the till of Go Local on Fernhill Road in Bootle on Wednesday (September 11) night. He left the money to help five families - by giving them £20 each - who might be struggling to heat their homes as temperatures plummeted across the country this week.
Born and raised in Bootle the 33-year-old said he decided he wanted to give something back. He told the ECHO: “I have been brought up in Bootle and I have seen a lot of deprived areas. Working around here, where people are struggling, you see a lot so I wanted to give a bit back, it's not a lot of money but it's something.

“People are struggling everywhere at the moment especially with all the cuts. I work all over the city but I was brought up in this area. I care about the community and I'm in a position at the moment where I can help. Some people work day and night and they are still struggling so this little something can go a long way for someone else.”
Michael plans to leave £100 in one different shop across Liverpool every month to do his bit to help people in the city. He said: “I just want to help people out, to help my community. It's not a lot of money but it's something and it's a lot to some people.
As temperatures are forecast to hit as low as 2C for the north west of England on Friday morning, September 13, Michael says “it would be nice to inspire people to do it as well.” Manager of Go Local on Fernhill Road, Seninda Dewmih, said: "Yes he has left the money here. It's a lovely thing he is doing for the community."
