A man has been left utterly flabbergasted after meeting a child with such an unusual name, it sent him on a 'phonetics journey'. He recounted how he came across the name and couldn't help but ponder over the thought process of the parents who deemed it perfect for their little one.

Taking to Reddit, he shared: "Today I stumbled upon a name that took me on a phonetic journey I wasn't prepared for: Jezsca. Naturally, I assumed it was some exotic or ancient name, but no... it's just Jessica." "Let's unpack this. Somewhere, someone looked at the perfectly functional Jessica and thought, 'Hmm, you know what this needs? A Z. And maybe a C that thinks it's a K. Oh, and let's just keep that one S in there for fun'."

Posting the name on Reddit's tragedeigh thread, a term used for a name that has been "deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique than it actually is", he painted a picture of the child having to correct teachers baffled by their name. He added: "Imagine the introductions: New teacher: "Jez-ska? Jezz-ka?.Kid, for the 10,000th time: "It's pronounced Jessica. Teacher: Visibly ages."

Commenting on the name, one user said: "I have a daughter named Jessica. Half the time when I call to make appointments for her over the phone and I tell them her name they ask me how it's spelled. I always just say, "the normal way" and wonder what kind of weird variations there could be for Jessica (always figured people just put a Y in the name instead of the I). Now I know."

While another user added: "They can pronounce it however they want, but those letters do not spell Jessica. No one will ever get that." A third user chimed in: "As a boring old Jessica, I actually love this! I might use it the next time I'm bowling." One more user added: "I literally thought it was a Polish word for a second it looked a lot like the word "jezdzca" which means rider but... it obviously wasn't that."
