Man on London Overground station roof throwing items onto train tracks

A man is causing severe delays on the London Overground this morning (Monday, June 17) after throwing items onto railway tracks from a roof near Kensington (Olympia) station. The Metropolitan Police say they were called at 4.21am to reports of the man, who was on a roof in Russell Gardens Mews.

When officers arrived, they found the man had thrown a number of items down onto the railway tracks near Kensington (Olympia) Overground station. The man then climbed a tree, where he remains five hours later.

Police say officers are trying to speak to him with concerns for his welfare. The incident has caused severe delays on the London Overground this morning, which is now expected to continue until 12pm.

National Rail has said: "The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Shepherds Bush and Clapham Junction, to allow teams to carry out their work all lines are blocked. Trains running between Watford Junction / Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction will be cancelled or revised. Disruption is expected until 12:00."

Transport for London is also reporting on the closure on part of the London Overground network. They say: "London Overground: No service between Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction due to a police incident outside Kensington (Olympia). Tickets are being accepted on London Buses and London Underground services via any reasonable route."

The full statement from the Metropolitan Police adds: "Police were called at 04:21hrs to reports of a man on a roof in Russell Gardens Mews W14. He threw a number of items down onto nearby railway tracks.

"He then climbed onto a tree, where he remains at this time. Officers are trying to speak to him following concerns for his welfare."
