Two thugs kicked a motorbike rider, causing him to swerve into traffic, before making threats towards him. Merseyside Police received a call at around 11.30am on Wednesday, September 4 to say a man in his 30s was victim to an attempted robbery.

It was reported the man was riding his Sym motorbike along the A5029 towards the junction of Claughton Road in Birkenhead when two men, who were both wearing black coats, tracksuit pants and black balaclavas, pulled alongside him on a Sur-Ron bike.

One of the men who was sat at the rear of the Sur-Ron demanded the motorbike and kicked the man causing him to swerve into oncoming traffic. The victim then pulled over at the junction of Claughton Road and Eastbourne Road at which point the two men on the other motorbike stopped and walked towards him, making threats.

Police said no weapon was sighted during the incident. The man then got off his bike and ran away followed by the two thugs and the victim returned to the scene a short time later and was able to recover his motorbike.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said they believe the incident was filmed by other drivers and are appealing for people to come forward.

Detective Inspector Sarah Wilkinson said: “We know this is a busy area of Birkenhead and as it was the middle of the day there would have been a number of motorists and pedestrians in the area. I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident, or believed they captured it on their mobile phone or dashcam, to contact us as a matter of urgency.

“On this occasion the victim was uninjured and thankfully was able to recover his property but this type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and we will do everything within our powers to find the people responsible. If you know anything please come forward and speak to us and tell us what you know.”
