Man Rescued by Helicopter After Getting Stuck While Climbing 70ft Cliff

A man was rescued by HM Coastguard after attempting to climb a 70ft cliff in Lulworth, England, on November 7.

The climber and a friend were attempting to scale Stair Hole, a small cove, when they got into difficulties. While one man was able to make it down the cliff, the other became stuck on an extremely slippery and muddy slope.

This clip, shared by HM Coastguard, shows the man clinging on to the steep cliff face before being winched off by a helicopter rescue team.

The coastguard said that the man was cold and visibly shocked but was able to make his own way home after being checked over by the winch paramedic.

Matt West, Duty Controller for HM Coastguard, said that the man was extremely lucky and could have had a very different outcome had he made one wrong step.

“We are fortunate to have really beautiful coastlines all around the UK but we want people to enjoy them and then make it home safely,” West said. “Please don’t take unnecessary risks and know your limits while visiting the coast.” Credit: HM Coastguard via Storyful
