Skip Campbell told Storyful that he and his wife, Nancy, discovered the kitten when they went outside to survey rising water levels due to heavy rainfall.

Nancy heard a faint sound coming from the creek and told Skip that something seemed to be bobbing up and down in the water. Skip jumped into action, taking off his shoes and heading into the water, where he was able to rescue the soaking wet kitten.
