A pensioner has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a skip hire truck. The incident occurred just before 11.55am at the junction of St Oswald’s Street and Prescot Road.

A cordon is in place as police accident investigators examine the scene. It's understood that while the pedestrian, a man in his 70s, is seriously hurt, his injuries are not life-threatening.

Officers are appealing for witness and drivers who were in the vicinity at that time to come forward to help with the investigation.
Chief Inspector Andy Hughes said: “This collision happened at a busy location and time of day and will have been witnessed by members of the public. I appeal to anyone who saw anything and who has yet to speak with my team, to please get in touch.

“In addition, I would ask local businesses to check your dashcam footage and CCTV to see if the collision has been captured. The area would have been busy with traffic and as such I would also encourage motorists who were in the area at the time who has dashcam fitted to their vehicles to urgently review it. Any help we receive, no matter how insignificant it may seem can assist our investigation.”
