London shooting: Man in his 20s shot dead in Leyton

A man in his twenties has been shot dead in east London.

The incident took place in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton at around 3am on Sunday.

The victim died at the scene, despite emergency services battling to rescue him, police said.

Officers have cordoned off the road to investigate the incident, in which a second man sustained injuries.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: “Next of kin are yet to be informed. Formal identification has not taken place.

"A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

"A second man, aged in his 20s, is being treated at an east London hospital for non-life threatening injuries”.

The victim was the second person to be shot dead in London in two days.

A man in his 30s was shot and killed in Wembley, north London, on Friday evening.

Police were called to Harrow Road at 8pm on Friday to find a man with gunshot injuries.
