A man was tackled by another skater at the Wollman Rink in Central Park on February 21, after he took to the ice carrying a “Trump 2024” flag.
Video from the scene shows the man, wearing a Make America Great Again hat, preparing the flag at the side of the rink, which is managed by the Trump Organization.
He then takes to the ice, provoking angry responses from some skaters, before he is eventually tackled to the ice, with some people cheering.
Sunday had been expected to be the last day of skating at the Wollman Rink, with local reports saying the city had cancelled the Trump contracts to run it and another rink. However, Bill Neidhardt, press secretary for Mayor Bill de Blasio, was later quoted as saying the rinks would remain open until the end of the season. Neidhardt’s statement continued: “make no mistake, we will not be doing business with the Trump Organization going forward. Inciting an insurrection will never be forgotten or forgiven.”
Eric Trump tweeted to thank de Blasio for the decision to keep the rinks open. “You’ve just made countless NYC families (along w our 250 employees) incredibly happy. This is a bright moment for New York and please know we appreciate it,” he wrote. Credit: Anonymous via Storyful
