Three motorists, including one from Darwen, were arrested on suspicion of drug driving at the weekend.

The drivers spent Monday (November 28) in police cells after all of them were arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

On Sunday evening (November 27) a car was stopped in Darwen at around 8.30pm. The officer stopped the vehicle for having no insurance or MOT.

The driver also tested positive for cannabis.

The car was seized for being driven without insurance and a 31-year-old man from Darwen was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

At 3pm on the same day a car was stopped in Fleetwood after the occupants were said to be acting suspiciously.

The driver tested positive for cannabis and cocaine, and a 47-year-old man from Thornton-Cleveleys was arrested.

At around 7.25pm in Blackpool a driver tested positive for cannabis and a man, 42, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

A police spokesperson said: “What’s the phrase… ‘play stupid games, win stupid prizes’?

“Three motorists were probably pondering something along these lines while in our custody cells on (Monday) after being stopped for various reasons… but all ending up being arrested for drug driving.

“All three arrests were made on Sunday evening.

“The first stop was just before 3pm in Fleetwood after the occupants of a car were seen acting suspiciously. At the roadside the driver of the vehicle tested positive for both cannabis and cocaine.

“A 47-year-old man from Thornton-Cleveleys was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

“The second stop was at around 7.25pm in Blackpool, when an officer on patrol felt something was amiss with a vehicle in Blackpool. The car was pulled over and the driver tested positive for cannabis.

“A 42-year-old man from Blackpool was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

“The third stop was at around 8.30pm in Darwen after an officer stopped a car for having no insurance or MOT.

“The driver also tested positive for cannabis. The car was seized for being driven without insurance and a 31-year-old man from Darwen was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

“The takeaway? Don’t drink or drug drive.”
