Man Spreading Ashes Washed Out To Sea

The search for a man who was washed out to sea off north Cornwall as he spread ashes has ended.

Coastguard teams have been looking for the 51-year-old victim along the shoreline.

He was last seen at Port William, near Tintagel, where he was caught by a large wave.

Two others, who were with him at the time, went into the sea in an unsuccessful attempt to rescue him.

A search and rescue helicopter was scrambled by Falmouth Coastguard from RAF Chievenor.

Rescue teams from Boscastle and Port Isaac and lifeboats began a shoreline search on Saturday.

It lasted for four hours before it was called off for the night amid gale force winds and rough seas.

The search resumed on Sunday morning has now ended after they found no sign of the victim.
