A man lured his cousin to an outdoor meeting before viciously attacking him in a frenzy. Sina Hosseinpour, 25, stabbed his cousin Assad Hosseinpour repeatedly through the window of his taxi just seconds after he pulled up at the side of the road.

The shocking incident, which was caught on CCTV, happened on August 30 this year. Sina Hosseinpour used his mobile phone to send his location to his cousin, prompting him to set off towards Salisbury Road, Wavertree, where Sina was waiting for him with a large kitchen knife. When he arrived, Sina immediately attacked him.

Video footage, played at Liverpool Crown Court today, November 15, showed Sina Hosseinpour armed with the knife, lunging at Assad with stabbing motions through the driver's seat window. The taxi rolled forward and crashed into another car as Assad attempted to push his cousin away.

Prosecutor Henry Riding said: "In the course of the attack, he delivers at least eight clear blows with his right arm and may even swap to his left at one point. In that early stage of the attack, the knife can clearly be seen. He then goes onto deliver further blows through the window of the vehicle, as many as 10 or 12 blows, but by that point it's impossible say whether he is still in possession of the knife."

Around 30 seconds into the attack, another man approached Sina Hosseinpour from behind "and began to wrestle with and restrain the defendant, who was still at the driver's side of the victim's vehicle, attacking the victim." CCTV showed the male pulling Sina away from the vehicle as Assad staggered out, holding his wounded arm.

Sina then broke free from the other man and attempted to kick his victim, but appeared to strike side of the taxi instead. He then attacked his cousin yet again, delivering two blows with his right and then left hand.

Assad Hosseinpour suffered puncture wounds on both arms and a deep, extensive laceration to his left forearm, which needed surgery. The court heard he did not wish to make a statement against his cousin following the attack, and had not co-operated with the investigation.

Sina Hosseinpour, of no fixed address, was initially charged with attempted murder, but this was later downgraded. He pleaded guilty to wounding causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and possession of a bladed article.

Peter White, defending, said: "The defendant is at a complete loss to explain why he has acted in this way. It doesn't appear there is a history of animosity and this is a man who has had no previous experience of the criminal justice system in any way. He can only apologise to all those affected by his actions, particularly his cousin. He puts his actions down to drinking to excess on the day. The only thing he can really say is that he is sorry."

Judge Anil Murray said: "There was significant planning: sending your location to lure the victim to the scene and having a knife ready for the attack. There's an argument for saying this was a prolonged and persistent attack, but if not that, it was certainly determined.

"You say you have got no memory of the incident and therefore can produce no explanation. I'm told by you there's no history of animosity between the two parties. you're of good character and offer your apologies and express remorse, which I accept is genuine." He sentenced Sina Hosseinpour to four years and six months in prison, and made a 10 year restraining order banning him from contacting his cousin.
