A man has been stabbed to death in east London.

The victim, believed to be in his mid-20s, died at the scene in Leyton at around 5.10pm on Wednesday and a murder investigation has been launched.

Police were called to North Birkbeck Road after reports of a stabbing and emergency services found the man with knife injuries.

There have been no arrests and police said they are appealing for witnesses as their inquiries continue.

Officers, who said the man has not been formally identified, are in the process of informing the victim’s next of kin.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place.

On Friday, 17-year-old Jodie Chesney was stabbed to death in a park near Romford, east London. A day later, Yousef Ghaleb Makki, also 17, was killed in Hale Barns, near Altrincham.

And this week former Metropolitan Police chief Bernard Hogan-Howe said he believes we need 20,000 more police officers on streets to tackle the problem.
