AN ISLE of Wight man accused of assaulting police officers is due to stand trial next year.

Michael Phillips, of Golf Links Road, Sandown, appeared before a judge at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Monday (October 3).

The 39-year-old is charged with two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, namely a police officer, and a single count of criminal damage.

The charges relate to an incident on November 15, 2021.

Mr Phillips is also facing a section 18 charge — accused of throwing a knife at a police officer and spitting at another.

The court heard a psychiatric report was being sought, but there were huge problems getting an appointment in prison.

Mr Phillips saw his case relisted for a trial on May 15, 2023, at the same venue.

An interim hearing was fixed for November 21 and Mr Phillips will remain in custody until that date.
