Man sustains head injury after being 'assaulted with golf club' in Cleethorpes street

Two men have been arrested following an incident in Cleethorpes in which a man was reportedly assaulted with a golf club.

Police were called to Mill Road at around 12pm on Wednesday (June 19) following reports that a verbal altercation was taking place between two people in the street.

During the incident, a 34-year-old man was reportedly assaulted with a golf club. He was taken to hospital to receive treatment for a head injury.


A scene guard was put in place as police carried out lines of enquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident.

Following a short area search, two men aged 27 and 54 were located on Corporation Road, Grimsby and were both arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and possession of controlled drugs.

The 27-year-old man has been released without charge in relation to the assault and bailed for the drugs offence, whilst the 54-year-old man remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Tom Kelly of Humberside Police said: “Our enquiries are ongoing, and I would encourage anyone who was in the area around the time and may have witnessed the incident, or anyone who has any CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist with our enquiries, to please contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 214 of 19 June.”
