A man who tried to use a blowtorch to get rid of spiders ended up burning down his home in Arizona.

Fire crews were called to the scene in Tucson to stop the fire from spreading.

An elderly woman was carried out of the burning home by her son and neighbours. She suffered minor injuries, officials said.

It took almost 30 minutes for 23 firefighters to extinguish the blaze, according to US reports.

Firefighters said the cause of the fire was under investigation but it was believed to have been started by a blowtorch used to burn spiders from underneath the mobile home.

The Red Cross is helping two residents who were displaced by the fire.
