A man came under attack as he repaired a car outside his girlfriend's Coatbridge home.

Mark Boyd pulled the male from under the vehicle and hit him twice on the head with a brick.

Boyd, 45, of Woodhall Avenue, Coatbridge, appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted assaulting the man to his injury and permanent disfigurement in Dunure Street on February 18.

Kevin Morrow, prosecuting, said the assault happened at about midday.

He told the court: "The victim was working under a vehicle outside his partner's home.

"The accused approached and removed a brick from the waistband of his trousers.

"He stood over him and dragged him away from the vehicle.

"The victim got to his feet and pushed him away, but Boyd struck him twice on the head with the brick.

"He dropped the brick and walked away.

"The victim picked up a metal bar and pursued the accused before striking him on the leg with it.

"The men then engaged in a stand-up fight and members of the public intervened to separate them."

The victim went to hospital where cuts to his forehead and above his eyebrow were treated. He has been left with some scarring.

Sheriff Derek Livingston deferred sentence until next month for background reports and an electronic tagging assessment.

He told Boyd, who admitted previous convictions: "All options are open."
