Manchester United picked up their second win of the season in Saturday's 3-0 success at Southampton. Erik ten Hag's side were victorious thanks to goals from Matthijs de Ligt, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.

It's a result that moves them into the top half with six points from a possible 12. Next up for United is a Carabao Cup third round tie against Barnsley at Old Trafford. They then travel to Crystal Palace next Saturday, before kickstarting their Europa League campaign with facing Twente at home.

Off the pitch, United were busy during the summer transfer window and are starting to settle their new signings into the squad. Deadline day arrival Manuel Ugarte came on as a second-half substitute at Southampton, with fellow recruits Joshua Zirkzee, Noussair Mazraoui and De Ligt starting.

Elsewhere, there is still plenty of transfer-related stories floating about regarding United. Below are some of the latest rumours from Old Trafford...

Rabiot talks

Marseille are in advanced talks to sign free agent Adrien Rabiot, according to Fabrizio Romano. United-linked Rabiot has been without a club since Juventus in the summer but is now closing in on a move to Marseille, with the Ligue 1 club confident of getting a deal done within the next 48 hours.

Negotiations are still ongoing with Rabiot to agree contract terms. It's reported that the 29-year-old is demanding around £220,000 per-week in addition to a signing bonus and commission for his agent and mother Veronique. United and Arsenal were among the Premier League teams interested.

MEN says: This is one, for me, that United are fortunate not to have signed. Rabiot would command huge wages, has not had a proper pre-season or played a competitive game since Euro 2024 and United don't need another midfielder, I feel that it's a good thing Ten Hag's side are not bringing in Rabiot.

Yes, you could argue that because he is available on a free transfer, it's a low risk signing but his signing bonus, commission fee for his agent and a whopping wage for someone that turns 30 next April is not worth it. United have already made a similar mistake with Casemiro, they don't need to make another one.

Faye interest

According to agent Andy Bara, United were knocked back in their efforts to sign former Barcelona centre-back Mikayil Faye over the summer.

Faye's representative Bara has said on the Inkubator podcast, via Goal: "Manchester United were interested in Faye, but he didn’t like that option. He wasn’t a regular at Barcelona, so what did it matter if he hadn’t had the same at United? His development wouldn’t have progressed at all.

"Barca wanted a buy-back clause in Faye’s contract with Rennais, it was the only condition that Barca accepted. The clause is €30million (£25m/$33m). Now everything depends on Faye, on how he is going to develop."

MEN says: It doesn't surprise me that United were interested in signing Faye. The 20-year-old is a talented centre-back who has the capabilities to be one of the best in Europe, in my opinion. He would have been a decent a pick-up, there is no doubt about it.

However, his £25million price tag would have put me off. Considering he didn't even make a single first-team appearance for Barcelona, that is a lot of money to pay for someone with so little experience. Despite this, I do think he could become a big player for Rennes.
