Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is missing his side's game with Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Sunday having picked up a knock in training - and there'll be question marks now raised as to whether he'll be available to Erik ten Hag when they head to Aston Villa next Sunday.

Centre half Maguire missed the Euros for England this summer because of injury but he has been a regular since the commencing of the new season and played 90 minutes on Wednesday night in the Europa League as United were held 1-1 by FC Twente on home soil.

United welcome Spurs on Sunday but Maguire - who has plenty of competition at the heart of defence this season with Lisandro Martinez and summer signing Matthijs de Ligt striking up a partnership - hasn't featured in the match-day squad at all and reports have emerged suggesting that it's down to an unspecified knock picked up this week.

United are already without Luke Shaw, who is touch and go to be involved at Villa Park next weekend - despite featuring for the Three Lions in the later stages of the Euros, he hasn't actually been available to Ten Hag since February. The Red Devils are already without long-term absentees Leny Yoro and Tyrell Malacia.

On Shaw, Ten Hag recently said: "I think it’s probably, but I can't say it's 100 per cent sure. The plan is just be back before but, as I say I can’t say this for 100 per cent for sure, it can be shortly after the [international] break."
