Life at Manchester United gets no easier for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Manchester City next up at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

While the United boss did manage to overcome Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last week, his side’s soft centre was on full display during a dramatic 2-2 draw away at Atalanta on Tuesday evening, with only the brilliance of Cristiano Ronaldo sparing his blushes.

Still, what makes this fixture so fascinating is the fact that United have performed well against Pep Guardiola’s side of late. In fact, they are unbeaten in four Premier League meetings against City, though that was before Ronaldo’s arrival.

Clearly, the Portuguese has proven prolific as ever since returning to the club, although does require a certain brand of football to thrive. Indeed, the counter-attacking, high-pressing style Solskjaer has opted for during the last few Manchester derbies simply might not be possible with Ronaldo leading the line.

Date, kick-off time and venue

The match is scheduled for a 12.30pm GMT kick-off on Saturday November 6, 2021.

Old Trafford in Manchester will host it.

Manchester United vs Manchester City team news

Raphael Varane will miss around a month’s worth of action which, along with a recent knock for Vicor Lindelof, seriously undermines any plans Solskjaer might have for potentially playing a back three.

Paul Pogba, meanwhile, remains suspended following his red card against Liverpool.

For City, Ferran Torres remains the only genuine injury absence, although Aymeric Laporte’s red card against Crystal Palace rules him out.

Man United XI: De Gea; Bailly, Maguire, Lindelof; Wan-Bissaka, McTominay, Fred, Shaw; Fernandes; Ronaldo, Greenwood.

Subs: Henderson, Telles, Matic, Dalot, Martial, Van de Beek, Sancho, Lingard, Rashford.

Man City XI: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Dias, Cancelo; Silva, Rodri, Gundogan; Jesus, Foden, De Bruyne.

Subs: Steffen, Carson, Ake, Fernandinho, Zinchenko, Grealish, Mahrez, Sterling, Palmer.
