Man walks free from court after attacking two men in famous bar
A former boxer walked free from court after he attacked two men in Temple Bar in Dublin. Former professional light middleweight boxer Stephen Harkin appeared at the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin on October 24 for sentencing.
It came after the 42-year-old, of Smith Place, Kirkdale, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault causing harm contrary to section three of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997. The charges relate to an incident that took place on July 20, 2019, in Temple Bar in Dublin, as reported by the Sunday World.
The publication reported a third charge was dropped relating to another incident of assault. Harkin, who coaches at Kirkdale ABC, was handed a three year and six month sentence suspended for the same length of time.
Judge Martin Nolan suspended the sentence on the condition Harkin keeps the peace and is of good behaviour towards the people of Ireland. He was also ordered to pay €10,000 as a token of remorse to the injured party from the attack, but if the money is refused it is to be paid to a local charity.

Within 18 months, a further €5,000 is to be paid to the injured party and, again, if refused the money should be paid to a local charity. Harkin retired from boxing in 2012 with a record of 6-3-2 throughout his professional career. He has also worked as a director of two private security firms in the UK.
