Manafacturer recalls 50,000 cars over safety issues 'increasing risk of crash'
Toyota are recalling 50,000 cars after safety concerns which could result in a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has named the Corolla Cross Hybrid as the specific make experiencing some problems with its breaking system, reports the Mirror.
Owners have been urged to visit their local Toyota dealership to check whether they are at risk. Staff will then run updates on the vehicles' programs to ensure it is road worthy.
The NHTSA further explained Toyota workers will update the the skid control ECU software for free. It explained: "In certain situations, during brake application when turning a corner, a driver may temporarily experience a hard brake pedal that can cause the stopping distance to be more than expected. This can increase the risk of a crash."

According to the alert, the recall only includes cars made from June 2022 to September 2024. Toyota said: "For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will update the programming of the skid control ECU software for the brake actuator, free of charge. Owners of involved vehicles will be notified by late November 2024."
The latest development comes just after Toyota recalled 43,395 of its 2023-2024 Sequoia Hybrids in the US after detecting a possible problem with the vehicles' tow hitches. The part is a device found on the rear of a car and is used to link a trailer to the vehicle so it can be towed.
The brand said: "The subject vehicles are equipped with a resin tow hitch cover held in place by molded clips to the rear bumper. Due to the design of the attachment structure between the tow hitch cover and bumper, there may be insufficient retention of the cover."
