A STAFF member who started as a waiter at the Greenbank Hotel more than 18 years ago aged just 17 has just been promoted to manager.
The Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth has promoted Matt Garland to hotel manager from assistant manager.
Having worked at The Greenbank from age 17, Matt has held a number of roles since joining as a part-time Waiter. He was subsequently appointed as training junior manager, duty manager, restaurant manager, food service manager, food and beverage manager and most recently, assistant hotel manager.
As hotel manager, Matt will oversee the daily operations, staff management, guest satisfaction and overall success of The Greenbank.
Ben Young, managing director at The Greenbank Hotel’s parent group, The Cornwall Hotel Collection, said: "It’s a real honour to announce Matt as the hotel’s new Hotel Manager – his passion for hospitality never goes unnoticed and this is an incredibly well-deserved promotion.
"Matt’s career really is a success story within the industry, which has a reputation for catering for stop-gap jobs. I’m looking forward to seeing Matt thrive in his new role, as it’s an exciting time for us as we continue to develop our offering to match the demand for good food and hospitality in Cornwall.”
Commenting on his promotion, Matt Garland added: “Being born and bred in Falmouth, I am so proud to be The Greenbank’s Hotel Manager, as it continues to be the heart of Falmouth’s community. Over the past 18 years of working here, I've come to realise that hospitality is not
our rooms or breath-taking views – but the genuine connections we create with our guests and staff. As I step into this new role, I will continue to nurture those authentic connections that we pride ourselves on.”
Falmouth’s oldest hotel and now lovingly refurbished, The Greenbank Hotel is the only hotel in the southwest to boast its own quay and private pontoons. Below the 60-bedroom, four-star hotel is The Working Boat, a cosy quayside pub that offers a nod to the 300-year-old workers’ and locals’ tavern.
