David Silva drew a line under a difficult few months by walking out for Manchester City's first home game of the season with his now healthy baby boy in his arms.

Silva's son Mateo was born prematurely around Christmas time, after the midfielder's partner Jessica had given birth after just 25 weeks.

The Spaniard missed a number of games around the festive period as he travelled to and from Valencia to visit his girlfriend and child.

Thankfully, Mateo pulled through and was allowed to go home in May, and Silva looked delighted as he walked out in front of a packed Etihad cradling his child on Sunday afternoon.

It comes just days after the 32-year-old showed off a heartfelt tattoo in tribute to his baby son. Silva uploaded a picture of the new ink on his forearm to Instagram, displaying a portrait of Mateo with the message 'never surrender' embedded.

And Silva capped an emotional afternoon with a stunning goal as City threatened to run riot against Huddersfield.

The Spain international planted a superb set-piece beyond a stranded Ben Hamer as City moved 4-1 in front in the second period.

Silva was sacrificed for Riyad Mahrez just after the hour-mark as Sky Sports cameras cut to pictures of his wife and child receiving warm applause from the Etihad Stadium faithful.
