Man City 5-0 Norwich LIVE! Mahrez, Sterling, Grealish goals; Premier League result, latest news and reaction

Manchester City vs Norwich - LIVE!

British record signing Jack Grealish marked his home debut for Manchester City with a goal as the Premier League champions demolished promoted Norwich City 5-0 on Saturday.

Grealish bundled in a low cross by Gabriel Jesus in the 20th minute to double City's lead after they had taken the lead in the sixth minute with a Tim Krul own goal.

Beaten in their opening game at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, City looked far sharper and swarmed all over a lightweight Norwich. They also had a Ferran Torres goal ruled out inside the opening 20 minutes.

Norwich, who lost 3-0 to Liverpool on the opening day, avoided any further damage until midway through the second half when Aymeric Laporte fired in from close range.

City then turned the screw with Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez both getting on the scoresheet with well-worked goals.

Easy peasy

17:23 , Alex Young

Jack Grealish scored on his home debut for Manchester City as they got their season up and running with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Norwich at the Etihad Stadium.

The champions lost the Community Shield against Leicester and their Premier League opener at Tottenham without scoring, but they put the Canaries to the sword in the Manchester rain.

They got the perfect start as goalkeeper Tim Krul scored an unfortunate own goal inside the opening 10 minutes before Grealish started paying some of his £100million fee back with his first goal for the club in the 22nd minute.

Further strikes from Aymeric Laporte, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez in the second half made it a rout as City proved they might be able to survive without trying to buy Harry Kane, albeit against a team fresh out of the Championship.

A Hanley or Krul own goal, a Torres disallowed one and then Grealish’s first for the club.

45min: ... which comes to nothing.

There will be one added minute.

GOAL!

15:23 , Alex Young

22min: This one counts! Grealish scores a goal on his home debut!

He didn't know too much about it, as the ball cannons off him and into the net.

15:19 , Alex Young

18min: Norwich can’t get a foot on the ball at the moment, but some scrappy defending is just doing enough to disrupt City.

Bernardo and Jesus busy.

Torres denied again as Bernardo committed a foul in the build up.

15:12 , Alex Young

Norwich facing tough task as they look to end disastrous run

14:55 , Daniel Gallan

The Etihad Stadium has not been a happy hunting ground for the Canaries.

Their last three visits to the blue half of Manchester has seen them lose 5-0, 2-1 and 7-0. That’s an aggregate score of 14-1.

They’re unchanged from last week’s 3-0 reverse at home to Liverpool. We can’t tell if that is a bad omen.

Manchester City have made five alterations to the side that lost to Tottenham.

Pep is expecting (hoping) for an open game.

14:00 , Daniel Gallan

This is what the City boss had to say of Norwich:

“Norwich manager is exceptional, they have the quality and they will try to play. They are a really good team but we are delighted to finally play in front of our people again.”

City looking to avoid fourth consecutive defeat

13:06 , Daniel Gallan

It’s hard to fathom, given the club’s immense buying power and litany of world class talent, but Manchester City are on the cusp of a fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions.

The 1-0 reverse in May’s Champions League final to Chelsea was followed up by further 1-0 losses to Leicester in the Community Shield and to Tottenham in the opening round of the Premier League season.

Further misery is unlikely, however. City have won their last three Premier League home matches against Norwich City by an aggregate score of 14-1.

Trio of big names on the injury list for champions

12:46 , Daniel Gallan

Phil Foden (ankle), Ilkay Gundogan (shoulder) and Kevin De Bruyne (ankle) are either wholly ruled our or at least in doubt for today’s 3pm kick off.

Foden will almost certainly be watching the clash against Norwich as he has yet to recover from an injury that will see him spend up to a month on the sideline.

De Bruyne was a late substitute in his side’s opening round defeat at Tottenham but struggled with training this week. Gundogan was given the all clear from manager Pep Guardiola, but remains a doubt.

Comfortable win for City predicted

Tom doesn’t give Norwich much hope against the champions.
