Manchester City face another tough test on Tuesday night when they welcome last season’s Ukrainian Premier League runners-up Shakhtar Donetsk to the Etihad Stadium.

The Champions League group stage game is City's second European clash of the season afterr their emphatic 4-0 victory over Feyenoord propelled Pep Guardiola's men to the top of Group F earlier this month.

Shakhtar also enjoyed victory in their opener, beating a strong Napoli side 2-1 at home and head to England for the first time since their narrow group stage defeat to Manchester United in the 2013/14 Champions League.

City will give Benjamin Mendy a late fitness test after he was forced off in the first half of Saturday's victory over Crystal Palace.

How to watch

The match will be shown live on BT Sport 3 on Tuesday September 26, with coverage from 19:30 BST.

Fernandinho faces former friends

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho comes up against his old club four years after quitting the Donbass Arena for Etihad Stadium. The midfielder spent eight years at Shakhtar, winning six league titles, seven domestic cups and the Uefa Cup.

And Fernadinho has warned: "We all know they have play attacking football. They like to play technical football - so it will be a great game on Tuesday.

“I had great times over there with my team-mates and the fans. It will be nice to see them all again."

Aguero closes in on City record

Sergio Aguero could become Manchester City’s all-time record goalscorer during the Champions League clash against Shakhtar. The Argentine moved to within a goal of Eric Brook’s record tally with a header against Crystal Palace on Saturday and is now just two goals shy of eclipsing the 78-year record.

Two sides in tip-top form

City have hit the ground running this term, winning five of their six games, scoring 21 goals and conceding just two. The Citizens' superb start has propelled them to them top of the Premier League ahead of bitter rivals Manchester United on goal difference.

And Shakhtar have also had an excellent start in their domestic league, winning eight and losing just one of their opening 10 games to lead the way by two points.
