Manchester City will be without another key man at Newcastle as Rodri injury woe compounded

Man City's injury woes have been compounded ahead of their visit to Newcastle United.

With Citizens star Rodri ruled out for the rest of the season, Pep Guardiola has confirmed that he will also be without Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgium international has been struggling with a thigh injury after limping out of the 0-0 draw with Inter Milan and Guardiola has stated he is not sure whether he will be back before or after the international break.

When asked about De Bruyne - who caused havoc when he came on against Newcastle in a 3-2 win for City last January - Guardiola said: "No. Maybe before the international break.

"If we don’t win then it is because of Rodri. We are stronger with him and stronger with Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb and Kevin but that is what it is. We don’t want it but it is football. As a club we have magnificent players and we will find a solution."

When talking about what City will be lacking without Spain's European Championship winning star Rodri, Guardiola said: "What he gives us, we don’t have a similar player. But the others can all together replace what Rodri has given since his arrival to us. We will have to do it as a team and find a way to play a lot of matches without an important player for us.

"This season is over. Unfortunately, we got the worst but these things happen. We will be there to support him in his recovery step-by-step."
