A Greater Manchester restaurant has had a massive response after issuing a ‘cry for help’ to keep them going through a difficult period of trading.

Bosses at the Almost Famous branch in Withington posted a message on social media on Wednesday (May 29) admitting that the venue, which is housed in the Grade II-listed Old District Bank building on Wilmslow Road, was ‘struggling’. The post said: “It’s the most beautiful of our sites, and we adore it. But we need your love and support to keep its doors open.”

The restaurant added: “There’s just not enough people coming through to experience the magic in the restaurant. We get it, times are tough for everyone, so we’ve been offering 50% off burgers all the time to give our baby a much-needed boost. We’ve put in some super awesome pool tables, installed screens so we can put on the Euros over summer and have some mega offers on drinks.

“Withington is the coolest place with an incredible community vibe, and we’re proud to be part of it. It would be heart-breaking to say goodbye, so come down, show some love, grab a half-price burger and have a good time.”

The venue, which is currently celebrating its first birthday, sells a range of burgers, fried chickens and loaded fries. Its burger menu includes the likes of the Kids in America, made up of a double cheeseburger with nacho cheese sauce, fries, turkey pepperoni, Cheetos, jalapenos and onions, and the Awesome HQ, which features a double cheeseburger, double buttermilk fried chicken, halloumi and slaw.

The initial post was met with messages from regular customers who described the restaurant as a ‘great space’. One person said: “It's our fav restaurant in Withington. Simply the best burgers in Manchester.” Another added: “The village would be lost without you guys. You’re not allowed to go anywhere.”

Providing an update on Thursday morning (May 30), staff at the Withington restaurant announced that people had turned up in their droves on Wednesday evening to support the venue.

The post revealed that people had been queuing outside the venue before it opened at four and had a full restaurant until the end of the shift. Posting on social media, the update said: “YOU GUYSSSS!!! You showed up for us last night and we can’t thank you enough - from the bottom of our hearts we truly appreciate you all.

“Yesterday’s post was hard - it’s difficult to admit you’re not doing well and you need help, so grateful for the love you all showed.” The post added: “[The manager] was so happy and now has a spring in her step, as were all the staff, who were expecting another quiet shift and worked their asses off too. Total legends.”

Almost Famous is at 437 Wilmslow Road, Withington, M20 4AN. Open 4-9.30pm on Monday to Thursday and 12pm to 9.30pm from Friday to Sunday.
