Manchester United's hopes of signing Nicolo Barella have reportedly been dealt a blow - with Fabrizio Romano insisting that he is unaware of the Reds' interest in the Inter Milan midfielder.

The 27-year-old Italy international has been linked with a move to the Premier League as he's impressed both domestically and on the international scene in recent seasons, with United, Manchester City and Liverpool all credited with an interest.

However, Romano appears to have ruled United out of a move for Barella, who has five years left to run on his current deal at the San Siro.

"Despite the rumours linking Nicolo Barella with a €75m (£62.4m, $83.8m) move to Manchester United, I have zero information on this," said Romano on Thursday. "He only extended his contract at Inter just a few months ago, and he’s a key player for them. I don’t even know where this information is coming from!”

Barella was instrumental in Italy's Euro 2020 triumph, starting six out of the seven games as Roberto Mancini's side defeated England on the penalties in the final at Wembley. At club level, he helped Inter Milan win Serie A and reach the 2023 Champions League final.

Meanwhile, HITC claim United will reignite their interest in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in 2025 after they had numerous bids rejected earlier this year.

The report claims that Dan Ashworth is "fully focused" on pursuing a move for the England international despite United adding Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt to their ranks this summer.

However, Everton are reportedly keen to tie Branthwaite, who joined from Carlisle in 2020, down to a new contract following the news earlier this week that The Friedkin Group had agreed a deal in principle to takeover the club.
