Manchester United have appeared to confirm the signing of Paul Woolston after the goalkeeper was spotted in training ground photos.

The 20-year-old was on trial at United following his release by Newcastle United and was pictured with a number of players at the Carrington training ground who are not on international duty.

Woolston, who has reportedly signed a contract until the end of the season, was wearing the No.32 training top which was previously unassigned after fellow goalkeeper Sam Johnstone left in the summer.

The goalkeeper has made on competitive appearance for a professional side, a 2-1 away win at Crewe Alexandra in the Checkatrade Trophy in August 2017.

Woolston has otherwise spent his short career in Newcastle's youth team and on loan at non-league sides.

Summer signing Lee Grant will provide cover for Jose Mourinho's first team, along with Sergio Romero, while Woolston expected to feature for the Under-23 side with Alex Fojticek and Matej Kovar.

Joel Pereira, Dean Henderson and Kieran O’Hara all left the club on loan for the season, at Vitoria, Sheffield United and Macclesfield Town respectively.
