Erik ten Hag will be without six first-team players for Manchester United's trip to St Mary's to face Southampton on Saturday lunchtime.

United will resume their campaign with the ambition of getting back to winning ways after suffering successive defeats prior to the international break. After losing 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion in their first away game of the season, the Reds were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool at Old Trafford last time out.

It means Ten Hag and his players are already under huge pressure to get back on track this weekend. On paper, it strikes as being a golden opportunity to get three points on the board, with Southampton having lost each of their first three league games.

United had hoped for some good news on the injury front, but aside from new signing Manuel Ugarte being available for selection, Ten Hag was unable to provide the exciting team news fans had hoped for. Both Luke Shaw and Rasmus Hojlund will miss the trip to the south coast due to injury, with the pair yet to appear for the club in the 2024/25 campaign.

Centre-back Victor Lindelof is another player who is yet to feature so far this season. He has been unavailable ever since injuring his toe in United's final game of pre-season against Liverpool.

The clash with Russell Martin's side also comes too soon for Mason Mount after he admitted almost a fortnight ago that he expected to miss 'a few games' with a muscle issue.

Leny Yoro is now walking without crutches but remains a couple of months away from a return. Tyrell Malacia remains a long-term absentee.
