Just over a week after Manchester United lifted the FA Cup and we are now fully into the off-season with the 2023/24 campaign gone.

All eyes now turn to preparations for the new campaign, with uncertainty still around Manchester United. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the club’s hierarchy are undertaking a review of the season, where a decision will be made on the future of manager Erik ten Hag.

For now, the Dutchman remains in the job and will be preparing for the 2024/25 season. The FA Cup win means that it will include European football, despite an eighth-place finish in the Premier League.

Here, the Manchester Evening News takes a look at some of the latest news doing the rounds and offers our own perspective.

Dortmund boss makes Sancho prediction

Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic has predicted that Jadon Sancho will make another appearance in the Champions League final after losing against Real Madrid over the weekend. Sancho spent the second half of the season on loan with Dortmund from United after a public fallout with manager Erik ten Hag.

Following the final at Wembley, Terzic said: “I didn't speak about the future because we've been speaking about the present. I am really happy that he is with us.

“Playing in a final in his hometown, it's a very special moment for him. You can feel the joy he receives and brings in the dressing room.

“I am very happy to work with Jadon. We don't know yet what the future will bring. But for sure, it's going to bring him another Champions League final.”

MEN Sport says: Sancho seems to have returned to the form that saw him get the move to United since returning to Dortmund in January. Despite him not being able to make a difference for his team in the Champions League final, he did play a big part in getting them there.

His future does look to be away from Old Trafford but whether it lies back in Dortmund is still to be seen. If he does complete a permanent move then another Champions League final may be a distinct possibility.

United in Douglas Luiz race

Manchester United are one of four teams to be showing an interest in Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, according to reports in Italy. Calciomercato report that United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Juventus are showing an interest in the Brazilian with the latter offered the chance to sign him this summer.

The report goes on to say that Unai Emery’s side are asking for a minimum £60 million fee if they were to cash in on the transfer window. Villa may look to sell at a high price so that they can reinvest without worrying about the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability rules (PSR).

MENSport says: Manchester United could potentially find it hard to compete with the teams interested in the midfielder this summer, as well as the team he is currently with, and that is down purely to one thing - a lack of Champions League football. Not only can that be offered by Arsenal, Liverpool and Juve, but Villa’s qualification for the competition at the end of the season could make persuading the player to make the move a bit more of a tricky task.
