Paul Pogba backs Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez to break out of rut

Paul Pogba has backed Alexis Sanchez to overcome his struggles at Manchester United.

The Chilean was substituted for the third game in succession in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Wolves - and extended his goalless run to eight games.

The 29-year-old hasn’t scored since the FA Cup semi final victory against Tottenham in April - and has only found the back of the net three times since his move from Arsenal in January.

He has looked a shadow of the player who terrorised Premier League defences during his time at the Emirates - but Pogba has been quick to defend his performances for United.

The France midfielder is convinced Sanchez will rediscover his best form once he has fully adapted to his new club.

“What you have to know about Alexis is he is a hard worker,” he said. “He trains very well, he always tries to help the team, talks with the team and everything. He will get used to it.

“When you play a long time with another team and you play different football in that other team you have some kind of adaptation that you have to have.

“It’s not that he is playing bad. We know that Alexis Sanchez can bring a lot and I’m sure he will. I’m sure he will.

“But he’s not playing bad and he keeps being positive, so that’s the good thing we have to think about.”
