Manchester United drew 1-1 with FC Twente in their Europa League opener on Wednesday night.

United took the lead in the first half when Christian Eriksen fired an excellent effort into the top corner. The home side were unable to build on their advantage in the second half and a more purposeful Twente hit back when Sam Lammers robbed Eriksen of possession and beat Andre Onana at his front post.

Joshua Zirkzee was denied by a good save from Lars Unnerstall but United never looked like finding a winning goal. Here's how the players rated at Old Trafford:

Andre Onana

Did not have a save to make in the first half but safely diverted a free kick wide from Sem Steijn in the second half. Poor positioning for Sam Lammers's goal. 6

Noussair Mazraoui

Another secure showing from the right back, who executed a perfect sliding tackle inside his own area. Not visible enough in attack. 6

Harry Maguire

Back in the team for United's midweek match and another accomplished performance as he seeks to return to the league starting XI. 6

Lisandro Martinez

Had some good actions at both ends and almost forced the breakthrough when Mees Hilgers deflected the ball towards his own goal. Booked for a robust foul. 6

Diogo Dalot

Let off the hook by Sem Steijn when his ill-advised backheel led to the first half's outstanding chance. Had a late shot blocked. 6

Manuel Ugarte

Struggled to distinguish himself on his second start. Stayed on for the duration but struggled to have any notable impact all night. 5

Christian Eriksen

Prudent with the ball when others were too impatient before he lashed in to put United ahead for his third goal of the season. But gave the ball away for the equaliser. 6

Amad

Injected some energy into some attacks when the game was goalless before he was predictably substituted when Alejandro Garnacho came on. 6

Bruno Fernandes

Sloppy again with the ball and one of those too impatient when the patient approach paid off in the first half. Got worse in the second. 4

Marcus Rashford

Confident body language and developing a decent rapport with Joshua Zirkzee but did not have a chance of note all night. 6

Joshua Zirkzee

Much of the same: productive link-up play outside of the box without looking like scoring inside the box. Drew a save with a fine effort in the second half. 6

Subs

Alejandro Garnacho

Endeavoured to make something happen. 7

Rasmus Hojlund

First home appearance since May. 5

Kobbie Mainoo

Sharp on the ball. 6

Mason Mount

Came on with Mainoo and Hojlund. 5

Manager

Limited the number of changes to three and his management of Eriksen is having a clear effect on United's play. Brought on impressive substitutes to try and win the game. 6
