Manchester United have been linked with several potential new signings in recent days.

United completed five deals during the summer transfer window to strengthen Erik ten Hag's squad. Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt and Manuel Ugarte were all signed by United before the deadline earlier this month.

The next opportunity for United to make further new signings will be when the transfer window reopens in the New Year. Between now and then, rumours are expected to swirl about the possibility of further new additions to the squad for the second half of the season.

MEN Sport takes a look at the latest United news and gossip to generate headlines over the last 24 hours.

Gomes linked with United return

United are reportedly interested in signing academy graduate Angel Gomes years after he left the club.

According to Give Me Sport, United are among a host of clubs exploring the possibility of signing Gomes next summer. The midfielder's contract at Lille is set to expire next year, and there is no sign of an extension being agreed.

The report claims that United will face competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle for Gomes' signature. The 24-year-old left Old Trafford in 2020 to sign for Lille, but could be set for a return to United if the latest reports are anything to be believed.

Gomes was included in the recent England squad and was handed his senior debut by interim manager Lee Carsley during the recent international break.

The Manchester Evening News says: Gomes was always held in high regard at United during his time at Old Trafford, and it was a shame to see a talented academy graduate leave the club. If the opportunity presents itself to bring Gomes back to his former home, United should at least give it some consideration.

Leon Goretzka verdict

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has addressed the speculation around Leon Goretzka's future amid links to United.

The Reds were mentioned in reports as monitoring Goretzka's situation after Bayern sporting director Max Eberl spoke about the midfielder's future. Eberl admitted that Goretkza is "upset" with his playing time, but Kompany has emphasised the midfielder's importance to the team.

"He’s important for us and will continue to be," Kompany told DAZN. "The team loves him.

"I only have players who want to play and accept the competition for places. At Bayern, it’s always easy to talk about individual players. But I want to talk about the team, that’s important to me.

"He is very important in this team. He’s doing well, but so are the others."

The Manchester Evening News says: United have been linked with Goretzka several times in the past, and this summer the priority midfield target was always Manuel Ugarte. A move for Goretzka would only make sense if the Bundesliga club were open to his departure, which does not seem the case based on Kompany's recent comments.
