Manchester United vs Derby County team news and line-ups: Anthony Martial and Diogo Dalot start; no Paul Pogba
Anthony Martial and Diogo Dalot start for Manchester United in tonight's EFL Cup clash against Derby County, with Alexis Sanchez on the bench.
Martial and Dalot impressed against Young Boys in the 3-0 Champions League win last week, but were dropped for the 1-1 Premier League draw against Wolves at the weekend.
The forward and wing-back are both restored to Jose Mourinho's starting XI for tonight's cup tie at Old Trafford, while there is no place for Paul Pogba after his relationship with the manager hit a new low.
Starting line-ups
Manchester United XI: Romero; Dalot, Bailly, Jones, Young; Matic, Herrera; Mata, Lingard, Martial; Lukaku
Subs: Grant, Darmian, Smalling, Fellaini, Fred, McTominay, Sanchez
Standard Sport understands that Pogba's relationship with Mourinho hit a new low earlier on Tuesday after the midfielder was told he would not captain United again.
Mourinho was infuriated by his side’s lacklustre performance in their 1-1 draw with Wolves on Saturday, questioning the attitude of his players.
Mourinho has so far been diplomatic - praising Pogba’s form and attitude - but it is believed he explained in detail why the former Juventus man was no longer considered captain material at the club’s Carrington training base.
He is said to have concerns over the player’s attitude, while his mistake on Saturday appears to have been the final straw.
United failed to deny claims Pogba will no longer be considered for skipper duties, but it remains to be seen if this is a drastic attempt by Mourinho to get a reaction from his star man before entrusting him with the armband again.
