The Mandalorian has finally revealed the real name of the character known to many fans as Baby Yoda.

Up until now, the character – a 50-year-old infant of Yoda’s species – has been referred to in official promotional and marketing materials as The Child.

But in the Star Wars spin-off’s latest episode, entitled “Chapter 13: The Jedi”, it was revealed that the character’s real name is in fact Grogu.

The revelation came after Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu met with Jedi warrior Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), who communicated with the child using the force.

As well as revealing his name, Ahsoka hinted that Grogu also has a tragic backstory, having been taught at the Jedi temple on Coruscant.

He was somehow saved from slaughter when the temple was attacked during the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

Fans have reacted to the name revelation with mixed feelings. Some have hailed the choice as the “perfect” name for the character, while others have insisted they will keep referring to him as Baby Yoda.

“I’m sorry, but Grogu is just awful,” wrote one Twitter user. “I guess I wanted him to be called Mitch or something no Grogu.”

“Chapter 13 of The Mandalorian gives Baby Yoda a name finally but I’m sticking with Baby Yoda,” wrote another. “Grogu? Really? Sounds like a Star Wars soup.”
