The Mandalorian's Gina Carano has been dropped from the Disney+ Star Wars series after sharing offensive posts on social media.

Carano played Rebel Alliance soldier and friend of Din Djarin, Cara Dune, in the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, but is now not expected to return for season three.

Lucasfilm's decision comes after the actress shared a post on Instagram that compared being a Republican supporter in the US to being Jewish during the Holocaust. The post has since been deleted.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Lucasfilm said: "Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.

"Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable."

Talent agency UTA has also parted ways with Carano, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Digital Spy has reached out to Carano's reps for comment.

While Cara Dune will no longer make an appearance in The Mandalorian's third season, Mando himself Pedro Pascal is officially returning – despite a relatively definitive ending for the character in season two's finale.

Pascal's stunt double Brendan Wayne confirmed the news last year, telling fans on Instagram: "Yes!! Pedro is coming back. There was never any question.
