Million Manhoef will be assessed by Stoke City's medical team ahead of a big mid-week home match against Portsmouth.

The key forward was withdrawn early in the second half of Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough. He had treatment for a leg problem on the pitch but Narcis Pelach explained that the forward had also been under the weather.

"(Manhoef) was not feeling well and asked for the change,” said the head coach. “He will have to be assessed."

There was a Stoke debut from the bench, however, for Sam Gallagher, who had been ruled out with a calf injury picked up in pre-season shortly after joining from Blackburn Rovers.

Andre Vidigal also returned from the cold to make a cameo as a substitute, having fallen sharply down the pecking order under Steven Schumacher.

Pelach said: "This is good for the team, more and more options, two players who I expect to give a lot. Hopefully they will get fitter and understand the ideas soon and we can use them. I'm very happy to have them of course."

Ashley Phillips is expected to be back available for the Portsmouth match after serving a concussion protocol since a bang on the head against Fleetwood in the Carabao Cup. The defender, on loan from Spurs, is believed to be suffering no ill effects but had to sit out of action for a fortnight according to FA rules.

Ben Pearson (hamstring), Lynden Gooch (knee) and Bosun Lawal (back) remain in the treatment room.
