A manhunt is underway in Germany after a two-year-old girl was found murdered in her family home.

Police said the girl, who has not been named, had suffered a neck injury, with local media reporting her throat had been slit.

“The father of the child was not found in the home and is strongly suspected of the crime, a spokesperson added.

“The 33-year-old suspect is on the run and an urgent manhunt is underway.”

The girl’s body was discovered when police visited the family home in the Neugraben district of Hamburg after the girl’s 32-year-old mother pressed charges over threats and intimidation.

Police returned to her home with her with the intention of giving the husband a restraining order on Monday evening.

“Officers entered the home alone and found the lifeless body of the two-year-old daughter…with a neck injury,” a spokesperson said.

“The mother suffered from shock and received medical treatment alongside her son.”

Police said the family were Pakistani but gave no further information as the investigation continues.
