Manhunt after woman stabbed in the back in Woolwich

Police have released a picture of a man they are hunting after a woman was stabbed in the back in southeast London.

Officers say the public should not approach Peter Morley, 35, and should call 999 immediately if they see him.

The female victim, who is thought to be in her 30s and known to Morley, was found in Woolwich with several stab wounds in her back at about 9.30am on Monday.

She was taken to hospital by helicopter - her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Detective Chief Inspector Lesley Hamilton, of Greenwich Police, said: "It is important that we locate Mr Morley quickly and without further incident and I urge anyone who sees him not to hesitate but to call police without delay."

Extra patrols are being conducted in the area.
