Man's body found in Wolverhampton street in 'suspicious' circumstances

Police have launched a major investigation in Wolverhampton after a man's body was found in a city street. West Midlands Police erected a cordon in Newhampton Road East after the tragic discovery on Friday (Nov 8).

The man was found in cardiac arrest at around 6.25pm, with police still holding a scene on Saturday morning. Despite the best efforts of medics, he died at the scene.

His death is being treated as suspicious, with a 58-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to assault. He remained in custody on Saturday afternoon.

Police have urged anyone with information, or who witnessed the incident, to get in touch. A full statement from West Midlands Police read: "We’re treating the death of a man whose body was found in Wolverhampton as suspicious.

"We’ve arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of conspiracy to assault after a man was found in cardiac arrest in Newhampton Road East last night (Fri), at around 6.25pm. Despite the best efforts from officers and paramedics at the scene he sadly died.

"The man remains in custody while we continue with our enquiries to understand the exact circumstances of what happened.
